Select and reserve your online classes. Most colleges offer students access to online accounts. After logging into the school's website, you gain access to a current list of open online classes. Click or check mark the classes on the Web page that you wish to enroll in. Look for a confirmation message stating that you have successfully reserved each online class under your account. Alternatively, many colleges have specialists in the registrar's department that can assist students in signing up for classes.

Open enrollment, sometimes called open admission, means a college's only admission criteria is that students have a high school diploma or GED. That's right – the school will accept all applicants with proof of successful high school completion or the equivalent. Space may be limited, though, so if there are more applicants than available seats, some may be waitlisted.

The college boasts a quick and convenient online enrollment process that can be completed in less than 10 minutes.

When asked about open enrollment schools, Dave Kobzina, Assistant Director for Transfer Recruitment at Portland State University, says, "I don't think you can say it's ‘good' or ‘bad' as a blanket statement. But I would lean towards saying that open enrollment at community colleges is generally a good thing. Not everyone does well academically in high school, and for a variety of reasons. Getting the opportunity to pursue a higher education is always good."

Online learning might be more solitary than studying on-campus, but Ball State University does its best to make students feel like they're a part of the school. Students who study at the online school will be in frequent contact with Ball State faculty, making sure that students are on pace and learning the material. To help keep students on track, the online programs also have regular assignments - much like on-campus courses - that allow the faculty to regularly evaluate how well students are doing. There are plenty of degree options offered, including the new transition to teaching program, a graduate program that prepares students to become teachers. Ball State is one of the most affordable online college options in the nation, particularly for military members or veterans.
